700 Pakistani families return from Afghanistan

Staff Report

PESHAWAR -- About 4,000 Pakistani temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) have returned from Afghanistan, The Express Tribune reported Monday (January 30).

The TDPs come from almost 700 families. They have reached a camp in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) confirmed.

The TDPs, originally from North Waziristan, fled to Khost Province, Afghanistan in 2014, after the Pakistani army launched Operation Zarb-e-Azb against militants in the area.

About 291,800 Pakistanis re-settled in Khost Province during the army offensive, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
