Aitzaz family seeks police protection

Staff Report

PESHAWAR -- Militants are reportedly threatening the family members of Aitzaz Hasan, the 15-year-old schoolboy who gave his life to stop a suicide bomber in January 2014 in Hangu District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Geo News reported Tuesday (June 13).

Aitzaz tackled the bomber, saving the lives of many other children. He posthumously received the Sitara-e-Jurat (Star of Courage).

His family continues to receive militant death threats today, his brother Mujtaba told Geo News.

A threatening letter in April, allegedly from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), demanded that the family not call Aitzaz a hero and that it distance itself from media and government officials, he said.

Mujtaba Hasan has sought police protection for his family but has not obtained it yet, said Geo News. It has long had a single guard provided by the district administration.
