MIRANSHAH -- Authorities in North Waziristan have banned public gatherings for 30 days after an improvised explosive device Friday (June 7) killed three army officers and a soldier in the Kharqamar area of the district.

A notification dated Saturday (June 8) imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in North Waziristan, banning sit-ins, protest rallies, public meetings and public gatherings of five or more persons.

The move was made to prevent any "untoward situation", according to the order, which cited the "current law and order situation, threats of militancy and other sabotage activities."
