Probe declares 22 suspects responsible for Diamer school attacks

DIAMER -- A joint probe investigating attacks on schools in Diamer District, Gilgit-Baltistan region, have found those responsible, Dawn reported Friday (October 19).

Unidentified assailants burned down more than a dozen schools, including girls-only centres, in Diamer in early August.

The police detained 87 suspects during the operation, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) for Diamer Roy Ajmal said, adding that 22 suspects have been found responsible for the attacks while the other 65 were released after the probe.

Another 25 cases had been filed against suspects in Chilas, Tangir and Darel areas.

The police are actively looking to find those who are still at large, SSP Ajmal said.
