Pompeo expected to visit Islamabad in September

Pakistan Forward

WASHINGTON, DC -- US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Islamabad on September 5 for talks with Pakistan's new leader, Dawn reported Sunday (August 19).

Pompeo is expected to meet with Prime Minister Imran Khan and his team on issues of mutual interest, according to diplomatic and official sources. The meeting likely will be Khan's first with a foreign dignitary.

Two major issues are likely to be the focus of the visit: revival of ties between the two countries and Pakistan's support for US efforts to jump-start the Afghan peace process.
