National committee endorses KP-FATA merger

Pakistan Forward

PESHAWAR -- Pakistan's National Implementation Committee (NIC) on Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Reforms has endorsed the merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Dawn reported Tuesday (December 26).

The NIC also agreed to let FATA elect 23 members to the KP Assembly in 2018, Dawn reported.

The NIC decided to do away with the controversial sections of the colonial-era Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), while other sections will remain in place as a conflict resolution mechanism that the government will repeal once FATA has a proper judicial system, according to Dawn.
