Pakistan blocks URLs, websites of banned groups

Pakistan Forward

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's Ministry of Information Technology has blocked 937 URLs and 10 websites of banned organisations as part of counter-terror efforts under the National Action Plan (NAP), Dawn reported Saturday (December 9).

The government is taking steps to prevent the use of internet and social media for terrorist activities. The numbers appeared in an Interior Ministry document on NAP progress that Dawn acquired.

The figures have remained relatively unchanged in the past few months.

An investigation by Dawn in April found that 41 of Pakistan's 64 banned outfits had a Facebook presence in the form of pages, groups and individual user profiles at the time.
