Pakistani army major killed in Dera Ismail Khan

ISLAMABAD -- A Pakistani army major has been killed during a search operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Twitter account of army spokesman Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, Geo News reported Wednesday (November 22).

Maj. Ishaq, 28, was killed during an exchange of fire while searching for a terrorist hideout in Kulachi Tehsil, Dera Ismail Khan District, according to Ghafoor.

Ishaq, a native of Khushab, Punjab, left behind a widow and an infant.

"Your sacrifices shall neither go in vain nor shall these be compromised," Ghafoor tweeted.

The army has lost a number of officers and soldiers in recent months, including another major, a captain and a lieutenant.
