ISLAMABAD -- Senior Pakistan political and military officials conferred on security with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson Tuesday (October 24) in Islamabad, Geo News reported.

"Pakistan is important regionally to our joint goals of providing peace and security to the region and providing an opportunity for greater economic relationship," Tillerson said.

Tillerson also said Pakistan had an interest "in not just containing [extremist organisations] but ultimately eliminating [them]".

He made his remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and other high officials.

Pakistan is committed to the war on terrorism and the country seeks a "tremendous relationship" with the US, said Abbasi during the meeting.
