Muscat QCG meeting revives stalled Afghan peace process

Pakistan Forward

ISLAMABAD -- Representatives of Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and the US Monday (October 16) gathered in Muscat, Oman, to re-activate the Quadrilateral Co-operation Group (QCG) seeking to bring peace to Afghanistan, Dawn reported Tuesday (October 17).

The meeting was "symbolic" and meant to restart the four-state forum, sources told Dawn. The QCG had been dormant for more than a year.

No official statement came after the meeting. The Taliban said previously that they would not participate in the Muscat meeting.

The meeting will boost Kabul and Islamabad's relationship, Afghan government Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said in a statement.
