KARACHI -- The alleged chief and at least five suspected members of the new militant outfit Ansarul Shariah Pakistan (ASP) were nabbed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Karachi, Geo News reported Wednesday (September 6).
Authorities made the arrests Monday (September 4), a security source told Geo News, identifying the alleged ASP leader as Sheheryar aka Abdullah Hashmi, an IT specialist at NED University of Engineering and Technology.
The ASP is accused of committing recent attacks in Karachi, including an attempt to kill Khawaja Izhar Hassan, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-affilliated lawmaker, on Eid ul Adha. Khawaja is the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.
