KARACHI -- Militant cells are actively targeting Karachi police, say security officials, The Express Tribune reported Sunday (July 23).

This year, three militant attacks on police have taken place in Karachi with authorities having no idea of the culprits' identity.

Three police officers and a boy were killed in an ambush Friday (July 21).

The city's militant outfits with active sleeper cells include Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Almi, Jamatul Ahrar and Ansarul Shariah Pakistan, said local counter-terrorism officer Raja Umar Khatab.

Ansarul Shariah Pakistan, though a new outfit, has experienced members previously tied to other militant groups, he said.
