KARACHI -- Pakistani football fans will have an opportunity to witness eight international footballers playing for the first time in Pakistan, SAMAA reported Friday (July 7).

The players include Ronaldinho and Roberto Carlos of Brazil. The eight plan to play friendly matches in Karachi and Lahore Saturday and Sunday (July 8 and 9), respectively. The other six players come from France, Portugal, the Netherlands and Britain.

Foreign sports stars and teams have generally avoided Pakistan since terrorists attacked a Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009. Seven Pakistanis were killed in the attack and 20 people wounded, including seven Sri Lankan players.
