Karachi serial killer gunned down; 16 suspects held in Punjab, Peshawar

KARACHI -- Pakistani police fatally shot a serial killer and apprehended 16 other suspects nationwide.

Irfan Pathan, the target killer, was involved in more than 100 slayings, police said. They killed him in a shoot-out in the Lyari area of Karachi Friday (January 27), Geo News reported, adding that three suspected Pathan accomplices escaped capture.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Thursday (January 26) in the Shahkot area detained three suspected terrorists with almost 1.4 tonnes of explosives, Dunya TV reported.

The suspects planned to carry out an attack in Gujranwala District, the CTC said.

Police in Peshawar nabbed 13 suspects in the Doranpur area Friday (January 27), according to Geo News, quoting police. Authorities said they seized a weapon cache from the suspects.
