3 Pakistani militants killed; 5 suspected militants arrested

Staff Report

PESHAWAR -- Three Pakistani militants were recently killed, while troops detained five suspected militants in Karachi, officials said.

Security forces thwarted an attempt by militants Thursday (December 8) to cross over from Afghanistan and killed one of them in lower Kurram Agency, the Frontier Corps (FC) said in a statement, according to The Express Tribune.

A bodyguard Thursday (December 8) fatally shot former Taliban leader Fazal Saeed Haqqani and another Haqqani bodyguard in lower Kurram Agency, Dawn reported, quoting security sources. No motive was reported.

Haqqani once led Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Kurram Agency but had split off to form his own militant group, sources told Dawn.

Meanwhile, police Friday (December 9) in Karachi detained five suspected TTP members, Geo News reported.
