Cleric killed in Balochistan; 5 terror suspects held in Punjab

ISLAMABAD -- Gunmen September 29 assassinated a cleric in Balochistan, while security forces nabbed five suspected terrorists in Multan and Lahore, Punjab Province.

Maulana Sarfaraz Ahmed was gunned down in Khuzdar District, Dawn quoted a Levies Force official as saying.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) September 29 apprehended four suspected terrorists near the Multan railway station, Dunya TV reported.

The suspects were plotting terrorist attacks in Multan, the CTD said, adding that its personnel seized a large quantity of arms.

Intelligence personnel the same day in Lahore arrested a suspect from Mohmand Agency, Dunya TV reported. He is accused of killing three Khasadars (local police officers).

Meanwhile, the kidnappers of a media executive freed him, Dawn reported.

Abid Abdullah, the executive director of Jang Media Group, reached his office in Islamabad September 29. He was abducted in Peshawar September 28.
