ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Raheel Sharif September 6 said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb had achieved successes but that threats to peace persisted.
The army launched Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan in June 2014. It continues today.
Addressing a Defence Day ceremony, Raheel called for more-vigorous implementation of the counter-terrorism National Action Plan (NAP) and broad reforms in the legal system and governance to sustain the defeat of terrorists.
The government announced NAP in December 2014.
"Today the Pakistani flag flies proudly over all parts of our dear homeland," he said, according to Dawn.
However, "internal and external threats to peace have not been completely eliminated," he said.
