5 Pakistani militants, 2 officials killed

CHITRAL, Pakistan -- Recent violence in Pakistan killed at least five militants and two officials, media reported.

Troops August 3 in Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), killed at least five militants, Geo News reported.

The fighting occurred only days after about 30 Afghanistan-based militants crossed into Chitral, killed two shepherds from the Kalash minority, and stole more than 400 goats.

In Balochistan Province, assassins August 2 gunned down a district council member in Kech and a district education officer in Awaran, Dawn reported August 3.

Meanwhile, law enforcement August 2 in Barkhan District, Balochistan Province, foiled a terrorist plot by seizing a weapons cache, a Frontier Corps spokesperson said according to SAMAA.

The cache included 10 mortar shells, four land mines and other terrorist devices.
