GILGIT -- Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as the Northern Areas of Pakistan, is awash in natural beauty.
Visitors from Pakistan and abroad tour the various lakes and valleys of Skardu, Hunza and Khaplu, Khunjerab Pass and other areas in the summer.
"The scenes look like great pieces of art," Qamar Wazir, a landscape photographer from Skardu, told Pakistan Forward.
The improved security situation across the country has led to a significant increase in the number of tourists and economic development in the area, he said.
