LAHORE -- Pakistani anti-corruption officials arrested opposition leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif Thursday (August 8) in Lahore.
Her father, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, a three-time prime minister, was sentenced in 2018 to seven years' imprisonment for corruption.
Corruption is widely entrenched in Pakistan. The fight against it is part of the government's effort to defuse public cynicism that can encourage extremism.
