KARACHI -- Police in Karachi said Thursday (January 24) that they arrested a top Haqqani Network commander in an intelligence-based operation on National Highway in Malir District.

Police officers detained Ahmed Jan, also known as Mullah, and recovered hand grenades and weapons, Malir District Police Chief Irfan Bahadur told Pakistan Forward.

"Jan was also associated with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its splinter faction Jamatul Ahrar in the past," said Bahadur.

Jan helped terrorists plan and carry out attacks in Karachi, Quetta, Dera Ismail Khan and North Waziristan, he said.
