ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani Federal Minister of Law and Justice Muhammad Farogh Naseem and UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid Monday (September 17) announced a new joint initiative to help recover 'Pakistan's looted wealth,' Dawn reported.
The justice and accountability initiative — aimed to tackle corruption and eliminate financial crimes as part of a broader arrangement between the two governments — was launched during Javid's official visit to Islamabad.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency (NCA) disclosed the arrest of "a former Pakistani politically exposed person" and his wife "in connection with alleged money laundering in the UK believed to be the result of corruption in Pakistan."
The couple, arrested in Surrey County, England, allegedly "control a UK property portfolio worth more than £8 million [more than Rs 1.2 billion] for which they appear to have no legitimate source of income."
Pakistan's law enforcement agencies -- the National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency -- supported the NCA in the arrest of the couple.
The couple underwent NCA interrogation and were released pending further investigation, reported Dawn.
