DIAMER, Gilgit-Baltistan -- Police are investigating the apparent arson of 12 schools late Thursday (August 2) in Diamer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Dawn reported.
Unidentified assailants burned down the schools overnight and fled, panicking local residents.
Of the facilities targeted, half were girls-only schools, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Diamer Roy Ajmal.
In some cases, the assailants threw books outside and set them on fire, he added.
Because all the schools were closed for the night, no injuries occurred, according to local police.
No group immediately claimed responsibility.
