PESHAWAR -- Caretaker Prime Minister Nasir ul Mulk and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa arrived in Peshawar separately on Thursday (July 12) to offer their condolences to the family of slain politician Haroon Bashir Bilour, Geo News reported.

Bilour, the provincial spokesman of the Awami National Party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and a candidate running in general elections scheduled for July 25, was killed alongside at least 21 others in a suicide attack Tuesday (July 10) in Yakatoot village.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility.

Mulk held a high level meeting with KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to discuss issues of law and order. He later met the Bilour family at their residence and offered condolences.

Bajwa also met with Bilour's family to offer condolences.

"[The] Bilour family has stood firm in [the] war against terrorism with great sacrifices during [the] national effort. We have come a long way in our challenging journey to peace, and [the] destination isn't far Inshallah", Bajwa said in an army statement.

"We stand united against all proponents of hate and mayhem regardless of their hue and colour," he said.
