Abbasi seeks to implement FATA reforms by end of May

Pakistan Forward

ISLAMABAD -- The Pakistani government is seeking to complete the mainstreaming of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) before the end of its term on May 31, said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Wednesday (May 2) at the National Assembly, according to Dawn.

The National Implementation Committee on FATA Reforms, which met earlier in the day, made a number of decisions and finalised the timeline for reforms, Abbasi said.

The reforms would merge FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and bring the region in line with the rest of the country's legal and governance structures.

Abbasi said he would privately inform parliamentary leaders of the decisions.
