QUETTA -- Authorities in Balochistan Tuesday (May 1) announced the arrest of a key Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) commander, Dawn reported.

Dr. Abdur Raheem Muhammad Shahi was arrested during an operation Monday (April 30) in Quetta, according to officials.

"The man is suspected of having a hand in the suicide bombings and numerous targeted killings that took place in [Quetta's] Hazara Town, Bolan Medical Complex and the [provincial] IG [inspector general]'s office," said Counter Terrorism Department Deputy IG Aitzaz Goraya.

Authorities recovered a number of weapons from Shahi, who had a Rs. 2 million ($20,000) bounty on his head, said Goraya.

The Hazara community in Quetta has been protesting for the past three days over its targeting by sectarian militants.
