ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan has spent more than Rs. 297 billion ($2.6 billion) during the past decade in the war against terrorism, Dawn reported Wednesday (February 21).
Finance Minister Rana Afzal Khan gave the figure in a written briefing to the country's senate.
The funds include about Rs. 153 billion ($1.4 billion) for the military during Operation Zarb-e-Azb, which it launched in 2014 to clear out militants in Pakistan's tribal areas. The government allocated more than Rs. 67 billion ($605 million) to law enforcement agencies and more than Rs. 31 billion ($280 million) to Defence Ministry bodies.
Authorities spent an additional Rs. 45 billion ($406 million) on the rehabilitation and return of internally displaced persons, said the Finance Ministry.
