Pakistan's drug enforcement agency nabs 1,338 suspected traffickers in 2017

RAWALPINDI -- The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested 1,338 suspected drug traffickers, including 27 foreigners, in operations throughout the country in 2017, Geo News reported Sunday (January 7), quoting an ANF spokesperson.

The ANF also recovered 164 metric tonnes of drugs and 56 metric tonnes of prohibited chemicals. Authorities broke up an international drug trafficking organisation and nine domestic ones, according to an agency spokesman.

Overall, the ANF registered 1,172 cases over the past year.

In addition to anti-drug operations, the ANF carried out 364 awareness and drug abuse prevention activities across the country throughout 2017, the spokesman said.
