ISLAMABAD -- The Pakistani government has banned companies from donating to terrorist entities and individuals included on the consolidated list of the UN Security Council's sanctions committee, Dawn reported Tuesday (January 2).
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan issued the notification Monday (January 1).
The Pakistani government has set a penalty of up to Rs. 10 million ($100,000) for any company that does not comply, said the notification.
The recent action is specifically aimed at the Falah-i-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF) charity, which is on the UN list as an affiliate of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group, said sources.
In November 2010, the US State Department designated FIF as an alias of LeT, the militant group blamed for a November 2008 attack on Mumbai, India, which claimed at least 164 lives.
FIF is the charity organisation for Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), which itself is listed as a terror outfit by the UN. Some consider JuD to be a front for LeT.
