RAWALPINDI -- US Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis and Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi discussed regional security Monday (December 4), according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement.

Mattis arrived Monday (December 4) at the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi to meet with top officials.

During the meeting with Bajwa, Mattis expressed his respect for Pakistan's armed forces and its effective operations against terrorists, said the statement.

He highlighted US concerns that a few militant elements continue to use Pakistan's territory to further their terrorist agenda in Afghanistan.

Mattis said his goal was not to make demands but to find common ground to work together, according to ISPR.

Gen. Bajwa said that Pakistan had done much more than its share but that the nation will remain committed to peace.

The US and Pakistan agreed to work towards specific and sustained actions regarding the other's concerns, said the ISPR statement.
