ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan has destroyed 99% of the terrorist sanctuaries in the country, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said Tuesday (October 24), Geo News reported.
Iqbal made his remarks during a seminar in Islamabad.
Pakistan is still facing challenges that arose from the Afghan war against the former USSR, including "Kalashnikov" gun culture and drugs that came to the country, said Iqbal.
However, the country has made progress in establishing peace, increasing the GDP and producing more electricity, he said.
Ahsan spoke ahead of a visit Tuesday by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Islamabad. Tillerson is expected to meet with senior Pakistani leaders to discuss bilateral relations, Geo News reported.
