ISLAMABAD -- Jamatul Ahrar (JA), a splinter group of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has confirmed the death of its leader in a US air strike, reported AFP Thursday (October 19).

JA leader Umar Khalid Khorasani sustained serious injuries in Tuesday's air strike in Paktia Province, Afghanistan. He succumbed to his injuries Wednesday (October 18), JA spokesman Asad Mansoor told AFP by phone.

"At least nine close associates of Khorasani were also killed in the strike," he added.

JA has claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks in Pakistan, including a 2016 suicide bombing in a Lahore park on Easter Sunday that killed 75 people.
