Sri Lanka to send cricket team to Pakistan in sign of improved security

LAHORE -- In a sign of Pakistan's recovery from the devastating terrorism of 2001 to 2014, Sri Lanka's cricket team plans to tour Pakistan in September, said Sri Lanka Cricket Monday (August 14), according to Dawn.

Foreign teams almost completely shunned Pakistan as a venue after terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in March 2009. Eight Pakistanis were killed and seven Sri Lankans wounded, Dawn reported.

The Sri Lankans' security team has cleared Pakistan to host cricket matches, Sri Lanka Cricket chief Thilanga Sumathipala said in a statement.

Sri Lanka plans to play three matches in Pakistan, including "at least one" in Lahore, he added.
