NEW YORK -- Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai was appointed UN Messenger of Peace Monday (April 10), according to a UN statement.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Malala, 19, to promote girls' education.
She is the youngest-ever Messenger of Peace. She was also the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient ever, receiving the 2014 award at age 17.
Malala survived an October 2012 Taliban assassination attempt in Swat and lives in England now.
