470 militants killed, 20,000 suspects arrested in Balochistan in 2 years

Staff Report

QUETTA -- Authorities in Balochistan province killed 470 militants and arrested more than 20,000 suspected militants in the past two years, provincial government spokesman Anwarul Haq Kakar said, according to a Thursday (February 23) report by Dawn.

Most of the militants killed belonged to sectarian groups, said Kakar.

The operations were part of the National Action Plan (NAP), which the federal government ordered shortly after the December 2014 terrorist massacre at Army Public School in Peshawar.

During the past two years in Balochistan, authorities carried out 5,640 intelligence-based operations against militant outfits, said Kakar.

Authorities Wednesday (February 22) in Loralai District, Balochistan, recovered 23 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
