5 policemen held, 11 suspended in Karachi, Rawalpindi

KARACHI -- Pakistani police recently detained five of their own and suspended 11 others in connection with suspected ties to bandits and drug smugglers in Karachi and Rawalpindi.

Police conducting a raid in Karachi Monday (December 19) detained two police officers identified as Zakir and Yousuf, Geo News reported. The two are accused of tipping off drug smugglers about pending police raids.

In Sindh Province, police Sunday (December 18) suspended 11 officers and detained two others for having alleged ties to criminals, Senior Superintendent of Police for East Karachi Faisal Abdullah said, according to Dunya TV.

In Rawalpindi District, Punjab Province, police Monday (December 19) suspended Sub-inspector Umar Irfan, a station house officer based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Geo News reported. Irfan is accused of possessing 1.4kg of heroin.
