Pakistanis detain attack suspects, foil terror plot

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani forces recently foiled a terrorist plot in Balochistan near the Afghan border, while the Pakistani army recently arrested suspects accused of attacks in Peshawar and Mardan.

The Frontier Corps (FC) seized at least 1,800kg of explosives, 150 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other weapons in the Panjpai area, FC spokesman Khan Wasey said September 27, according to Dawn.

Militants planned to use the weapons in attacking interior Balochistan, Wasey said. The suspects fled arrest.

Meanwhile, the army recently detained seven suspects accused of carrying out attacks in Peshawar and Mardan earlier in September, army spokesman Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa said in Peshawar September 27, according to SAMAA TV. He did not report the locations of their arrests.

The three suspects accused of the Mardan attack were planning to strike the Mardan Police Lines and a National Bank branch in Mardan, Bajwa said, adding that the army recovered three suicide vests from them.

Security forces September 28 in Karachi nabbed 18 suspects, including three accused members of a banned outfit, Geo News reported.
