QUETTA -- Security forces killed at least three suicide bombers attempting to attack the Police Lines area of Loralai District, Balochistan, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Wednesday (June 26).

"One suicide bomber was killed at the entrance while the other two attackers were neutralised at the premises of Police Lines," ISPR said.

Terrorists' goal thwarted

The terrorists were trying to reach an area where police officers were taking examinations, it added.

A police officer was killed and two others wounded in the ensuing gun battle, said ISPR, adding that security forces have cleared the compound.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal said in a statement issued in Quetta that he appreciated the prompt response of security forces and that he has ordered strict measures against militants.

"The anti-peace elements are playing with the lives of innocent people, and they are trying to challenge the writ of the state. Foiling the agenda of the enemy in Balochistan is a top priority of the state," Kamal said.

TTP claims responsibility

A Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) faction claimed responsibility.

"This was the third attack taking place in Loralai District in the past few months," said Muhammad Riaz, a Loralai-based senior security official.

"Law enforcement agencies are taking concrete steps against militants in Loralai and other restive areas of Balochistan. The militants are trying to strengthen their hold in our tribal belt, but rest assured they will never succeed in their goals," Riaz said.
